The Orchard

At the far eastern end of La Corolla, the Orchard still contains a few local varieties of apple trees from our early productive gardening years, when we thought we would embrace the local tradition of cider-making.  We want to keep some visible link to that period in the garden’s evolution while incorporating some of our newer, more adventurous planting ideas.

Hickories and pecans, sugar maples and tea plants, Sichuan pepper plants, pineapple guavas and mountain pepper all jostle for space.  Edible, out of the ordinary, ornamental and interesting to grow.  I’m keen to find out what might thrive in this climate that our neighbours might not have considered yet.
